Question 1 - Past Record

For new candidates: Did you support and participate in the movement to Honour The Vote in 2016? Why?

Yes, I did support the Honour The Vote movement and spoke at the rally that was held, because I believe there are very few times when MLA's have such a direct understanding of what the voters in a district think on an issue. When we ask for feedback and receive it, voters have a right to have that feedback respected.

Question 2 - Principles

Do you support Proportional Representation on principle? Why?

Yes, because it better reflects the choice of the electorate.

Question 3 - The Particular model

Do you support the specific Proportional Representation model that is proposed for PEI? Why?

MMP was not my first choice of model, but I think it's far better than First Past The Post and will provide results that better reflect the popular vote.

Question 4 - Legitimacy of the Process

Do you believe the 2019 Referendum is a more legitimate, equally legitimate, or less legitimate process than 2016's plebiscite? Why?

I feel that our two elected Green MLA's did a lot to improve the legislation governing the referendum, and I think the results have to be treated with legitimacy.

Questions 5 - Commitment to future action

If you are a supporter of Proportional Representation:  Regardless of the Referendum result, if a majority of MLAs were in-principle supporters of Proportional Representation, would you introduce and/or support such legislation to improve the island's electoral system?

In the same way that I didn't think the Premier should override the views of the electorate with his own, I don't feel I have any right to do that either. If elected I'm committed to honouring the vote.

Paulette Halupa - NDP

Question 1 - Past Record

For new candidates: Did you support and participate in the movement to Honour The Vote in 2016? Why?

I absolutely supported Honour the vote and had many discussions about it.

Question 2 - Principles

Do you support Proportional Representation on principle? Why?

I do Support it because I believe its the only way to have a fair and honest government.

Question 3 - The Particular model

Do you support the specific Proportional Representation model that is proposed for PEI? Why?

I believe this is the best way to have all voices at the table.

Question 4 - Legitimacy of the Process

Do you believe the 2019 Referendum is a more legitimate, equally legitimate, or less legitimate process than 2016's plebiscite? Why?

I believe it is as legitimate as the last one. I believe the last vote should have been honored if you don't show up you are not opposed as our current government has tried to make us believe.

Questions 5 - Commitment to future action

If you are a supporter of Proportional Representation:  Regardless of the Referendum result, if a majority of MLAs were in-principle supporters of Proportional Representation, would you introduce and/or support such legislation to improve the island's electoral system?

I believe not only myself but my party as a whole would support legislation to improve the island's electoral system.
