Question 1 - Past Record

For new candidates: Did you support and participate in the movement to Honour The Vote in 2016? Why?

Yes, I supported and participated in the movement to Honour the Vote. It was the winning choice of voters in the 2016 plebiscite and it is essential that government honour the will of the people.

Question 2 - Principles

Do you support Proportional Representation on principle? Why?

Yes, as it allows for more diverse opinions and better long term policy planning. Additionally, and as important, it ensures that every vote counts.

Question 3 - The Particular model

Do you support the specific Proportional Representation model that is proposed for PEI? Why?

MMP allows us to move forward by adding a proportional vote to our current FPTP system. It is a positive step forward in proportional representation. In MMP, you get two votes- one for a person who represents your district , and a second for a person who represents your values .

Question 4 - Legitimacy of the Process

Do you believe the 2019 Referendum is a more legitimate, equally legitimate, or less legitimate process than 2016's plebiscite? Why?

A referendum is a more binding process on the government , and in that sense offers the possibility of an outcome that will be honoured. However, the 2019 process has been marred by Liberal partisanship. It has allowed less time for public education and voter engagement.

Questions 5 - Commitment to future action

If you are a supporter of Proportional Representation:  Regardless of the Referendum result, if a majority of MLAs were in-principle supporters of Proportional Representation, would you introduce and/or support such legislation to improve the island's electoral system?

Yes

Question 1 - Past Record

For new candidates: Did you support and participate in the movement to Honour The Vote in 2016? Why?

Yes I did support and participate in the movement to honour the vote in 2016. I was disappointed that our elected government did not pursue the voted will of the people. I was also discouraged to watch our government filibuster a session of the Legislative Assembly wasting tax payers dollars rather than having meaningful discussion on the topic.

Question 2 - Principles

Do you support Proportional Representation on principle? Why?

Yes, I believe it delivers healthy, coalition minority governments that more accurately reflect the vote. If we try to exercise evidence based decision making in choosing the best electoral process it's easy to find proportional representation governments that put forward stronger policy and legislation that is ethical and looking at the future.

Question 3 - The Particular model

Do you support the specific Proportional Representation model that is proposed for PEI? Why?

Yes, I believe the proposed MMP representation would provide a more accurate representation of Islanders in the legislative assembly.

Question 4 - Legitimacy of the Process

Do you believe the 2019 Referendum is a more legitimate, equally legitimate, or less legitimate process than 2016's plebiscite? Why?

No, I do not think the 2019 referendum is more legitimate. I believe the 2016 plebiscite was legitimate and should have been honoured.

Questions 5 - Commitment to future action

If you are a supporter of Proportional Representation:  Regardless of the Referendum result, if a majority of MLAs were in-principle supporters of Proportional Representation, would you introduce and/or support such legislation to improve the island's electoral system?

If elected MLA of District 12 I would support legislation that honoured the results of the referendum in our district.
